Note: “We are simply unpersuaded that an email message, sent using the employer’s email system but not from the employer, could reasonably be perceived as speech by, or speech endorsed by, the employer–particularly a message reflecting a view different from the employer’s. Email users typically understand that an email message conveys the views of the sender, not those of the email account provider. They would no more think that an email message sent from a coworker via a work email account speaks for the employer (unless the message was sent by the employer’s supervisor or agent) than they would think that a message they receive from a friend on their personal Gmail account speaks for Google.”

From Jews for Palestinian Right of
Return<https://www.facebook.com/JewsForPalestinianRightOfReturn> and US
Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of
Israel<http://www.usacbi.org/>

On campuses throughout the United States, university administrators are
attempting to silence Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and other
student organizations that courageously speak out against Israeli
violations of Palestinian human rights.

This witch-hunt is documented in The Palestine Exception to Free Speech: A
Movement Under Attack in the US (September
2015)<http://palestinelegal.org/the-palestine-exception>, a comprehensive
report by Palestine Legal<http://palestinelegal.org/> and the Center for
Constitutional Rights<https://ccrjustice.org/>, which also addresses
violations of academic freedom in such cases as Prof. Steven Salaita at
UIUC<http://www.ccrjustice.org/home/what-we-do/our-cases/salaita-v-kennedy-et-al>.
In the months since this report was issued, attacks on student activists
have escalated at
CUNY<http://palestinelegal.org/news/2015/11/20/statement-re-calls-to-ban-students-for-justice-in-palestine-sjp-from-city-university-of-new-york-cuny>,
UC Santa
Cruz<https://www.facebook.com/uaw2865santacruz/posts/452749424924848>,
UCLA<https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/nora-barrows-friedman/ucla-student-groups-face-funding-cuts-over-israel-divestment>,
UT-Austin<http://palestinelegal.org/news/2015/12/3/palestine-legal-calls-on-ut-to-protect-student-speech?rq=texas>,
and elsewhere.

Unable to defend the indefensible in free and open debate, supporters of
Israel have resorted to smearing SJP as “anti-Semitic.” In reality, it is
an anti-apartheid movement that champions the growing campaign for
Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS)<http://www.bdsmovement.net/>,
which demands an end to Israeli occupation and colonization of all Arab
lands and dismantling the Wall; full equality for Arab-Palestinian
citizens of Israel; and implementation of the right of Palestinian
refugees to return.

We reaffirm that anti-Apartheid is not anti-Semitic, and call for an
immediate end to the attack on SJP and other Palestine rights activists.

Human Rights TRUMP Oppression: Solidarity with Iraqi and Syrian Refugees

On November 19, the House of Representative passed a bill (H.R. 4038) that would effectively bar Syrian and Iraqi refugees from entering the country. This was one of the many public examples of the recent, recurring Islamophobic, Arabphobic, and xenophobic attacks against the Muslim members of our community.

In light of these events, we are organizing a rally to express our solidarity with Syrian and Iraqi migrants who are seeking refuge in the United States. The right to seek refuge (or asylum) in another country is an enshrined human right under international law. #HRTrumpsOppression#StandUp4Syrians #StandUp4Iraqis
