** High Priority **
The 37 people listed below attended last night’s ALAA Delegate
Council, which took the action summarized here.
CITY ELECTIONS
By unanimous voice vote, the DC passed a motion (Popper/Little) to
approve Albro’s recommendation for a special contribution of $1000 to
the UAW political action (CAP) fund, in order to mobilize in the
upcoming city elections.
NEW CRIMINAL RFP
By unanimous voice vote, the DC passed a motion (Popper/Wasserman, R.)
to adopt the Executive Board’s proposal to: (1) Publicly campaign
against the RFP, with particular focus on generating City Council
opposition; (2) Report to and mobilize members via office meetings,
written materials, etc.; (3) Call on members not to aid or abet scab
contractors; and (4) Direct members to refrain from participating in
formulation of LAS contract bids until and unless approved by counsel.
Further information is forthcoming.
CONTRACT RATIFICATION
Recommendation. By a hand vote of 28-3-2, the DC passed a motion
(Popper/Geltman) to adopt the EB’s August 27 recommendation for
membership ratification of the proposed contract.
Additional written materials detailing the contract terms are
forthcoming.
Procedure. By unanimous voice vote, the DC passed a motion
(Bomba/Zuss) to adopt the EB’s proposal to hold September 6
ratification balloting in each office (from at least 9-10 a.m., 1
p.m.-2 p.m., and 4 p.m.-5 p.m.) and to permit absentee balloting [see
attached materials] for those who are: (1) Seriously ill and unable to
come to work; (2) On a previously-scheduled vacation of more than one
day and outside the metro area; (3) Actually engaged on trial or
equivalent appearance; or (4) Assigned to Night Court. The DC
defeated motions to (Kelleher/Epstein) hold the Sept. 6 contract
ratification balloting at a citywide membership meeting (hand vote:
2-27-2), and (Lundgren/Zablocki) postpone the contract ratification
balloting until October 4 (hand vote: 2-26-1).
