Subject: Defending Free Speech at Work

As suggested by the Brooklyn ALAA delegates (first attachment), we should immediately grieve Management’s renewed attempt (second attachment) to restrict our longstanding free speech rights on our office doors and e-mail.

Meanwhile, the most effective response is for all of us to continue exercising those rights.

Doors: Put your stuff back up. And print out and post the attached “free speech” notice, citing the relevant § 3.5 of ALAA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, which states that “The expression of personal religious, political, social or economic beliefs of each and every attorney is fully guaranteed.”

E-mail: Continue to post your political speech to the ALAA and 1199 e-lists.

Free speech — use it, or lose it.
