Subject: Azalia Torres for Union President

Azalia’s commitment to the ALAA goes back a very long time. I worked with Azalia on the bargaining committee for the 1990 contract. As the ACLA representative at that time, Azalia was instrumental in causing  the Legal Aid Society to adopt more diverse hiring practices. (see At all times during her involvement with ALAA, Azalia has been a tireless advocate for attorney’s rights, and she has an organizing background which predates her involvement with the Union.

Anyone who knows Azalia well appreciates her unique combination of blunt honesty and warmth, her shrewd courtroom acumen, and her commitment to protecting the quality of life of her fellow union members while ensuring  the best possible representation of our clients. These personal skills, combined with the extensive experience with the union, make her the best candidate for the job requiring zeal, tactical skills and transparency.
